The British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installation (BiKBBI) is delighted to announce Band of Builders as its charity partner for the forthcoming BiKBBI Awards Gala Dinner in London on 7 February 2023.

The achievements and talent of the KBB installation sector will once again be placed in the spotlight at the second annual BiKBBI Awards, as hundreds of businesses and individuals from across the industry gather to recognise and celebrate the installation businesses and installers that excel at their craft. The event provides the perfect platform for Band of Builders to share its story, raise awareness of its projects and hopefully raise some much-needed funds.

BiKBBI CEO, Damian Walters commented ‘The BiKBBI Awards is all about the tradespeople operating in our industry and it is quite unbelievable that up until last year an awards programme to recognise and reward this vital workforce did not exist. The growth we have seen in entry submissions this year is a testament to the importance of the awards programme and we expect the Awards Gala Dinner to also be bigger, providing the perfect opportunity to invite a charity partner to become involved. We chose Band of Builders because of the magnificent work that they do and because both the volunteers for and the beneficiaries of Band of Builders represent the hard-working ‘on the tools’ individuals that are quite literally the backbone of the construction sector. Both the BiKBBI team and our registered businesses are enormously proud to be supporting such a worthy cause.’

Band of Builders supports tradespeople in need via a network of volunteers and was formed in 2016 when founder Addam Smith was compelled to do something to support his friend, Keith Ellick, who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. What started as a project to landscape Keith’s garden quickly became a full-scale renovation of Keith’s house, following support by an army of volunteers from across the UK. Since then, Band of Builders has been unstoppable, establishing itself as the national construction charity that supports members of the industry facing life-changing or life-limiting circumstances by delivering life-enhancing projects, as well as financial and emotional support for tradespeople and their families across the UK.

Band of Builders recently surpassed the £1m milestone for the delivery value of projects – which calculates the equivalent cost of labour and materials. Reaching the landmark has involved 772 volunteers giving up their time for free on projects that took a total of 203 days and involved 18,087 hours of labour. Materials and support are provided by organisations and businesses across the sector who support the charity on individual projects or through ongoing partnerships.

Gavin Crane, CEO of Band of Builders, said ‘This prestigious event presents a great opportunity to be part of the BiKBBI community – both as its charity partner and also because we have been shortlisted for the Community Champion of the Year award. We were humbled to hear about the award nomination and very grateful to BiKBBI for making us its charity partner – because this gives us the opportunity to raise awareness of our charity and showcase the work that our volunteers do.’
